Welcome to our Kindergarten Blog! On this site, I will share information about our week, upcoming school dates to remember, ideas for home to extend thinking, and anything relevant to our learning in Room 110. I will update every weekend!
I would love to start by saying WOW! What an awesome group of kids we have in Kindergarten this year! I already have so many ideas for word games, community-building ideas, and upcoming science experiments. These kiddos are just eager to learn and share! I truly enjoyed looking through the self-portraits of the kindergartners from last week. I will placed these in their binders, which will serve as a portfolio space to show growth throughout the year. I will explain binders at Curriculum Night on Thursday. We also started to discuss our own class Guidelines for a Great Year, we decorated "Kissing Hands," representing a "kiss" from the students to help comfort family members who might be missing them. =)
This week, the kids will be working to start their Math and Writing Workshops, so I will be instructing them on how to have meaningful conversations about their thinking and how to generate ideas for independent writing. They will connect all subject areas through reading, becoming familiar with "color" words, and words we associate with school. They will share books called "Colors," "The Day the Crayons Quit," "Splat the Cat," and "How to Read a Book." They will also update the Word Wall to reflect words that are meaningful to their writing. Math time will consist of counting, writing numbers, learning to count on to add, and mostly using Ten Frames to organize their thinking while counting.
I am looking forward to a great week and will share so much more at Curriculum Night on Thursday:Thursday, August 25th
