We've had another nice 5-day week in Kindergarten! This has given us the perfect amount of time to really get some routines established. The kids have been very responsible in returning their books to the proper bins, being kind to others, and learning to use their time wisely. It has been amazing to see their choices in buddies or even deciding to read alone during our shared reading time.
Next week, we will start with our first guidance lesson. After discussing friendships and safe choices, Kindergartners will create a plan for kindness in our classroom. This will capture their thoughts and feelings, so that our class agreements will become meaningful to the kids. In Math, we will continue our number line study, including ten frames, dice, and counting blocks, as we build upon knowledge of our math tools. We enjoyed playing a game called "Mingle and Count" this week, as well as an activity dice game. Please ask your children to share these games with your family if you have any free time!
Wednesday will be picture day at Pinney! Please send me an email if you have not gotten a picture form. Wednesday will also be Kindergarten Library day. Kids will choose their own special book to check out that they will keep in the classroom. Mrs. Tuza will ask your child their first and last name, so it would be great if you also practice this at home! Most of our kids will say their first and middle names. =) Our reading envelopes will only come home next week on Tues, Wed, and Thurs, as we are ready to transition into using the Friday Notes Home folders and I Can Read binders! Grandparent's Day is on September 10th, so we will have the kids make a small craft for someone they love that will celebrate Grandparent's Day. I know that this may be a sensitive topic for friends who may not have a grandparent, so we really focus on a special family member and help kids to choose someone they might want to celebrate on that day! I hope everyone has a wonderful 3-day weekend with family! Thank you for your support of our Kindergarten Stars!
