We have had so much fun this week preparing for the arrival of Fall! The weather doesn't necessarily match, but I will never complain about warmth and outdoor recess. =) I have truly enjoyed hearing and recording all of the stories from our kids about their special items and how they got them. These stories were written on official Narrative papers to be shared at conferences. The kids learned two new math games this week, called "Fill the Cup" and "Crossout." Fill the Cup could easily be played at home with a cup, a die, and some objects. You take turns rolling the die and filling the cup with that number of items. When the cup is filled, count how many of each item it took to fill up. Your kids can show you this at home! We are practicing counting objects with 1-1 correspondence.
Next week, we will continue celebrating fall with a decoration requiring the kids to write the sight word "the." Please enjoy singing "Leaves are Falling" from binders. Also in binders, please check for a purple sheet for details on collecting Environmental print. Have your child look for a label or sign that they are able to "read" and send it in! See the sheet for more details. Our kids will paint fall scenery and revisit their narratives to check for completion. Our focus in reading will be pointing our finger to match one-to-one with books. For this, we will take out our classroom Big Books! We will begin to meet with small groups to go over sight words and will learn a new math game called Tower Compare as well.
I sent home an updated Star Calendar this week, and wanted to share with you all the sheet that comes home with your child prior to their star week:
