I can't believe it is already almost Fall! This week has been simply lovely, reading things that your child knows/cares about, sharing an hanging family photos, and learning to be confident together! We wrote a class book, designed together our expectations for reading time, learned two new partner math games, and made plans for an upcoming narrative writing piece.
On Friday of this week, we read "Thank You, Bear," a story in which Bear gives a gift to his friend Mouse. I had the kids think about an item that they love and cherish, and who gave it to them. We drew the item and the special person and set them aside. On Monday, we will illustrate the setting in which they received their special item. 4-5 kids will share these aloud Monday-Thursday, and on Friday the kids will write their Narrative. This should allow for plenty of pre-writing planning, without the kids even realizing! =) Here is the Narrative Rubric we will use:

In addition to brainstorming our Narratives, the kids will take a Nature Walk to collect leaves. We will read "Leaf Man" together and create Leaf People using these natural art materials! Students will learn a new leaf song and poem to place in their "I Can Read" Notebooks. When these come home, please help your child to use their finger to point to one word at a time as you read together. Thank you for taking the time to look through the Friday Notes Home folder and to leave notes for your child. They were so excited as I helped them to read your writing! I *may* have shed a tear or two secretly while reading and seeing your love for your kiddos!
Lastly, I hope everyone has a nice time at Pinney Palooza tonight! I am very sorry, but I am unable to attend due to a prior family commitment, so make sure to wave to Mrs. Thompson! I will be at Leed's Farm night this year instead!
Enjoy the weekend!
