This Monday, we will continue to meet kids out by the flagpole, and then will follow the schedule on the orange sheet from walk-thru. For PM, however, we will continue to meet out front every day...and that will continue all year. 12:50 is the time that kids are released from buses and when everyone in PM should look for either myself or Mrs. Thompson. Monday is also special because it will be a solar eclipse day! The teachers will be wearing all black, and students are also invited to join in the fun by wearing as much black as possible. K will not be going outside for recess, or to watch the eclipse, but we will read about it and watch a live stream from NASA all together in Rm 114. https://www.nasa.gov/eclipselive-info is the link in case you are also able to watch! Aside from the eclipse, our kids will be learning color words, mixing colors, and creating a Kindergarten rainbow masterpiece as a team. They will paint special Kissing Hands for family members who just might be missing them from home/work =).
Beginning tomorrow, you will see that your child will be bringing home a BIG ENVELOPE in their backpack. In it will be one book that they choose (with guidance). Your child should show you how they read the pictures (or the words if they're able), and then you should place the envelope back into their backpack together. This will come home every single day with a new book. Occasionally, I will also send time-sensitive paperwork home in this big envelope. If the item doesn't have a deadline, I will send it home on Friday in a Yellow FRIDAY NOTES HOME folder. I know this might be confusing at first, and your child may bring home books that are not "just-right" fits, but this week will be mostly about establishing the routine and getting the kids to feel like they are responsible, and more importantly, READERS!
I will explain all of our routines, have sign-ups for volunteers, and will give everyone a calendar with theme overview/star students on Curriculum Night 8/30/2017 from 6:30-7:15 in the Pinney Commons.
Dates to remember:
8/30/17 Curriculum Night (K)
