It was so fun going out to the garden with the Kindergartners and seeing them work together to clean up quite a mess! We loved working in the soil and planning for our special garden. We started to learn about the importance of pollinators for a garden and found out that the best way to help the bees is to plant wildflowers. We have decided to make our garden a Wildflower Kinder Garden to celebrate all of the bees, birds, butterflies, moths, and bats around our school. Hopefully they will help gardens in our community as well!
Our kids worked hard to understand the word "ESTIMATE" through our weekly rich problems, and they learned about parts of maps. You should see 3 key components of maps on their Garden models: Title, Key, and Compass Rose. We had a ton of fun completing a math egg hunt around the room and working to solve problems together.
Next week, we will celebrate Earth Day by planting our wildflower seeds in the garden, and learning about ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Focus words will be WAS and OF. We will continue with our study of maps and will compare and contrast two different types of dough for a science and writing project. To end the week, we will watch The Lorax. =)
Save the Date:
April 19th--No school
April 24th--Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast (if you volunteered for ANYTHING this year, you are invited!!)
April 25th--Take your child to work day (this will be an excused absence, just let me know!)
May 9th---MOTHER'S DAY COFFEE SHOP EVENT 10:15 AM and 2:30 PM
In our Kindergarten classrooms, we will host a casual and sweet coffee date to celebrate Mother's Day. We will serve coffee, share a song or two, and read a special book about moms. Because of limited space, we would like for the kids to try to limit the number of attendees--If mom cannot attend, kids may invite 1 different special guest. Please email me for special circumstances. =)
May 22nd--Supergames
May 23rd--Last day for K
