This week we began talking about personal narratives! Students told classmates a story all week, we read the books “Good Luck Bear,” “Thank You Bear,” and “Sergio Saves the Game” to help us understand what a narrative is. Next week we will begin writing the stories we told our classmates in blank paper books!
In math, we learned some new games. “Racing Bears” and “Spin a Rainbow Number” were two new games we learned this week. Racing bears is another game we play with dice. Students roll a number and move their bear the amount of spaces they rolled. Students play this game with a partner and see who can get their bear to the top the fastest. Students are practicing writing their numbers when we play spin a rainbow number. They spin a spinner and write the number the pointer lands on. They use a different colored crayon each time they write the number. Sometimes one number can be written multiple times in a row…aka a rainbow number!
We made two class books this week. Our first book is called “I Am.” We wrote the sentence “I am…” on the board. Every student had an I Am sentence with their name. We took turns reading the sentences as a class, then students made their own page for the book. Students wrote “I am (name)” and drew a picture of themselves. I will make this into a book and put it in our classroom library! The second book we made is an “I Can” book. We used interactive writing to write things we can do as a class. We took pictures of the students modeling what they can do, these will become the illustrations for our book!
Mrs. Saridakis came in on Tuesday and we had our third guidance lesson. This week she taught us about tattling and reporting. Students learned the difference between tattling and reporting. Students learned to report when someone is hurt or in danger and they learned that tattling is when someone is not hurt or in danger. This was our last guidance lesson for a few weeks, our next lesson isn’t until November!
Students wrote notes home again today. Please take the time to look at them this weekend and write a message back if you have time! The students have so much fun brainstorming things we did throughout the week, they often ask if we can write Friday notes home randomly throughout the week!
Looking forward to next week, students will begin writing their personal narratives down in a blank book. We will be working on them throughout the week in parts (beginning, middle, and end). We will also begin talking about Fall! Sunday is the first day of fall. Today we read a book called “Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn” with Mrs. Thompson’s class, so students already know that summer is ending and fall is beginning. Next week we will dive deeper into the changing weather, writing narratives, and continue to work together to build a community in our classroom!
