Our four-day week flew by! The heat and rain kept us inside almost all week, but that didn’t stop the children from having a blast playing together! They are forming such wonderful friendships. They play so nicely together, and are always so creative with their games. We spent a lot of time this week continuing to learn routines, and getting back in the swing of things after a nice long weekend. Students continued to work together, build friendships, and learn all week! In math we continued working with dice. Students played "Roll and Build", "Monster Number Roll", and "Roll and Record" this week. Today they had the opportunity to decide which of the three games we played this week they were going to play today! It’s always so fun to see which games they are interested in and eager to play again.
On Tuesday, we had our first guidance lesson with Mrs. Saridakis! She talked to us about her role here at Pinney, and how to be a good listener. We are looking forward to her lesson with us next week! :)
This week we made our very own “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus” class book! Students learned how to spell the words “yes” and “no”. They made their own page in the book with themselves as the bus driver, and they got to decide if the Pigeon should drive the bus or not! Students also learned how to draw the Pigeon just like Mo Willems! We had so much fun creating this book, we may make a sequel!
Next week we will continue to build a community in our classroom by working together throughout the day. We will continue to count, play dice games, and attempt to solve rich problems. In reading we will continue discussing and showing “what good readers do”. In writing next week, we will be creating a rainbow collage. On Thursday, students brought home a letter with a sandwich bag attached. Please send home 6 (small) artifacts (one red, one orange, one yellow, one green, one blue, and one purple) to school by Monday. Remember, students will not be bringing the artifacts home again so send in things that can be left at school! We will be labeling the colors of the rainbow and using this as a reference throughout the year.
I am looking forward to next week! Have a great weekend!
