Next week is already October! The year is flying by!! This week, we spent lots of time discussing the new season, Autumn, and how we can tell it’s here when we go outside. We read many fall themed books and completed fall themed activities. Students completed a writing piece using our kindergarten sight word “the” and created a fall tree with construction paper to go along with the writing. Students also listened to the book “Ten Apples Up on Top” while counting, cutting, and gluing paper apples on a picture of themselves. These turned out so well and students really enjoyed this fun activity! They are hanging up in our classroom for you to see at Fall conferences!
We also began writing personal narratives in paper books. Students are doing an incredible job writing down the sounds and words they hear. It’s not always easy, but they’ve been trying their best and working so hard! Since these books are something I will be showing at conferences, we are doing each page step by step so that students do their very best work! We will be completing the books early next week.
In math this week, students worked on their “Farm Counting Book.” The books have 8 pages in them, and require students to write numbers and words, draw pictures, and use a ten-frame. Students think of a farm animal for each page, write the number of animals (i.e. page 1 has 1 cow, page 2 has 2 pigs, etc.), draw the animals, write the type of animal, and fill in the ten-frame accordingly. We worked on the Farm Counting Book three days in a row, students took their time on the books and really thought about the spelling of each animal as well as how to draw the number and represent the number of animals on a ten-frame.
Next week we are beginning to talk about living and non-living things in science! We have many fun activities planned! We will continue to build a classroom community, talk about Autumn, and work on stories!
Have a great weekend!
Important dates to remember:
10/10 and 10/18: Parent Teacher Conferences
10/17: Picture retake/makeup day
10/19 and 10/22: No school
